Indonesian mathematics instruction follows a structured curriculum, with lessons primarily guided by reference books. One particular insight I gained was the variation in the sequence of topics compared to the Philippine curriculum. For instance, when I was assigned to teach a lesson on Sets, I was surprised because, in the Philippines, this topic is covered early in the school year, whereas here, it appears later in the second semester. This difference underscores the diverse approaches to curriculum design across Southeast Asia, highlighting the importance of programs like the SEA Teacher Exchange, which aims to create a comparative framework for educational standards in the region.
